Attorney Michael F. McMahon is a criminal defense attorney and former DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney with more than 20 years of legal experience. He represents clients throughout DuPage County and the surrounding areas in a wide range of criminal matters, including DUI defense, drug charges, violent crimes, sex crimes, weapons charges, expungements, and traffic crimes.
Mr. McMahon earned his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1993, graduating with honors. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Philosophy, from Loyola University Chicago in 1990, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1993 and has been in good standing continuously since admission.
Before entering private practice, Mr. McMahon served as an Assistant State's Attorney in the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, where he prosecuted DUI, drug, and criminal cases before the judges of the 18th Judicial Circuit. That experience gave him direct knowledge of how the prosecution builds its cases, evaluates evidence, and decides when to negotiate versus proceed to trial. He has since applied that knowledge on behalf of defendants in DuPage County Circuit Court every day of his career.
Mr. McMahon also served as an Illinois Liquor Control Commissioner, as a DuPage County Board Member for District 3, and as Legal Counsel to the President of the Illinois Senate, giving him a depth of institutional knowledge across the county's legal and governmental landscape that few defense attorneys can match.
